Getting the right kind of advice about career options from fully qualified careers advisors is a very important part of a young person’s personal development. We are using the services of Adviza this year in order to ensure every year 11 student gets an individual interview with a qualified careers advisor. This will give them independent advice and guidance to ensure they are fully informed about the options they have in taking the next step in their education, training or employment.
The Adviza website has useful information for students and parents. A unique feature is the ability for Fitzharrys students to receive free careers advice throughout the year via live web chats with a qualified careers advisor. If students log on the website and click through to the ‘Young People’ section, they will find the link to this service. This can be accessed at any time through the year during the working day and an out of hours service is available on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9pm every week. This service is open to any Fitzharrys student in years 9-13.
Each year 11 student will have a careers interview at some point in year 11. However, as the careers advisor can only see 6 students a day, some students will have an interview earlier than others. We would recommend that students and parents access the web chat service if their interview is not in the immediate future and they want to get more information about career options.

All young people due to leave school in or after June 2014 must continue in training or learning until their 18th birthday. You might hear this called ‘raising the participation age’ or ‘RPA’.
