Examination Results

The 2016 results show that all of the hard work, creativity, determination and belief of Fitzharrys students and staff has shaped a school that consistently enables students to succeed and flourish.
Key Stage 4

Fitzharrys students and staff celebrated topping the 2016 ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection with record results at GCSE. 68% of students achieved A*-C in English and Maths, with 63% securing 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths. This is the third year of record results are Fitzharrys, confirming the high quality teaching and learning and the positive ethos that runs through our school. These achievements place us alongside other high performing schools in Oxfordshire.

Progress 8 is a new performance table measure that reflects how well students have done in 8 subjects compared to the expectations they came with from their Key Stage 2 SATS. At Fitzharrys we are committed to helping each and every student achieve their potential, whether that is all A* and A grades or 8 or more GCSE passes. We celebrate each student’s success, and there is a lot to celebrate this year at Fitzharrys. Our overall positive Progress 8 score shows that not only are these school record results, but many students have also exceeded expectations. This shows that Fitzharrys really adds value to our students.

We are delighted with the achievements of students and staff. The June Ofsted report described teachers as ‘an enthusiastic and committed team’ and said that ‘relationships between staff and pupils are very strong’. The inspectors said that ‘good teaching drives good achievement’, and these record results are a fitting reward for everyone’s hard work and dedication.

Congratulations to all our students who have done so well. Our motto is ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’, and this success across our school has really fuelled the feel good factor that runs through Fitzharrys.

Key Stage 5

Students in the Abingdon Consortium for Education once again celebrated record A Level exam results. The percentage of students across Fitzharrys, John Mason and Larkmead schools achieving at least 3 A* or A grades has improved on last year’s record, and is once more above the national average. The last three years of A*-B grades also puts ACfE above the national average.

This year’s ACfE A Level results compare very favourably with schools locally and across Oxfordshire, resounding recognition of the high quality of state education in Abingdon. It was great to see so many smiling faces across the town as students secured places at University, an apprenticeship or a job. It’s also been a delight to hear about all the students from Abingdon who have completed their degrees and are moving on to the next stage in their future.
