Transition from Year 6

Virtual Transition Tea content coming soon...

Dear future Fitzharrys students,

As well as feeling excited about the move to secondary school, it is perfectly natural to feel a little nervous. Here at Fitzharrys, we do lots of things to make sure that you are happy and confident about joining your great new school.

This process usually begins with a special Transition Tea at Fitzharrys, where you would get to meet all the other children who will be starting secondary school with you and begin to make lots of new friends. As this is not possible due to ongoing government restrictions around COVID-19, we have produced some fantastic material for a Virtual Transition Tea: content will go live on this page from 4pm on Thursday 13th May 2021. In addition, there will be an opportunity to communicate with key members of staff for Year 7 from 4pm - 7pm on this date.  Look out for full details to follow soon.

As part of getting to know you, Ms Emeny, our Head of Year 7 and Transition will visit you at your primary school. Meeting you helps us to organise the Houses and tutor groups so we can make sure you will have some new friends right from the very start of your time at Fitzharrys. You can ask any questions you want, and we’ll do all we can to make sure that you are feeling really positive about the adventure ahead of you.

Ordinarily, everyone comes to Fitzharrys for Induction Day in June where you start to find your way around the school, make new friends and meet our student Buddies, friendly faces who will be there to support you when you start secondary school. In the evening, you come back with parents and carers to share all that you have done earlier in the day. Some of you are usually able to visit on extra days to help you feel really confident about moving up to Fitzharrys. We don't yet know whether we will be allowed to hold a physical Induction Day or whether this will also be delivered virtually, but we will let you know as soon as possible. We are planning some more fantastic content in readiness for either outcome.

All of this means that, come September, you will be ready to make a great start in your new school, feeling part of the Fitzharrys family from the very beginning and ready to make the most of all the great things that lie ahead.

We look forward to welcoming you to Fitzharrys.

Best wishes,

Will Speke
Head of School
